A good friend isn’t aware that she has stinky breath. How can I gently break it to her?

Gosh, we’ve all had bad breath at one time or another! But if your friend has a chronic problem, casually bring up the subject during an ordinary chat, suggests etiquette expert Lizzie Post of the Emily Post Institute. In a caring tone, ask your pal, “Did you eat garlic or onions today? Want a breath mint?” (Be sure to have mints handy!) She should get the hint. Then add: “I know I’d want to be told if my breath isn’t fresh.” If she seems open to further talking about it, mention that halitosis could be due to a health issue, so she may want to see her dentist to determine an underlying cause.
