Contest Winner: Accomplish an Important Goal
Tash Cervantes of Round Rock, Tex., set a lofty challenge -- and climbed higher than she ever thought possible!
Winner of the "Accomplish an Important Goal" contest
In the summer of 2007, technology consultant Tash Cervantes climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa -- in order to raise money for Lea Toto, an organization that provides health care for HIV-positive children in Nairobi, Kenya. "I'm not athletic, so I had never dreamed of doing something like this before," explains Tash, who was inspired by the idea of making a difference in the lives of youngsters.
While vigorously training for the adventure, Tash hit the pavement for Lea Toto contributions. "It required a lot of work, participating in fund-raisers and pestering everyone
I knew for donations!" Tash says. She raised $5,000 for the charity.
Upon arriving in Kenya, Tash first visited a medical clinic and met the young patients. Then she headed to Tanzania and up the mountain, which was cold and windy. "It was physically exhausting! Yet I had such a sense of satisfaction when finished," Tash says. "Now I know that if I can climb the highest mountain in Africa, what can't I accomplish?"
What Tash Won: A new shoe wardrobe from RackRoomShoes.com and a basket filled with beauty products and
