I have a skin infection that’s not getting better. Could it be serious?

You might have a drug-resistant staph infection called MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). Once found only in hospitals and nursing homes, MRSA is becoming increasingly common among otherwise healthy adults, says Dan Behroozan, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles. The good news: There are antibiotics that kill the bacteria. The bottom line: If you notice that a skin infection is not responding to medication, call your doctor ASAP for a treatment that works!
