I’m starting to get ingrown hairs. How can I get rid of them?

Your best bet is plucking. Before you tweeze, prepare your skin by gently exfoliating the area; then cover with a warm, damp cloth to soften the hair, advises Nicole DeYampert, M.D., a dermatologist based in Washington, D.C.

To be sure of removing the hair completely from the shaft (not doing so often causes ingrowns), “find a tweezer of appropriate size,” she says. For fine hairs, use a delicate pair; if your hair is thick and coarse, choose a heavy-duty tool like Revlon Diamond Grip Slant Tip Tweezer, $13, drugstores, which has ground diamond tips for a surefire grip.
