Sharing food — and patronizing only places that cooked to order — helped Yolanda and Rey blast off fat

Yolanda’s weight-loss regimen had an amazing effect on her boyfriend, Rey Marquez. By setting a powerful example, says Rey, “She helped me lose 70 lbs.” Here’s what Rey, who now carries 205 lbs. on his 5-foot-11 frame, learned from Yolanda about eating healthy outside your home:

  • Sharing is good (for your hips): “When we go for pizza, Yoli orders one slice and cuts it in half,” he says. “You eat less when you share!”

  • Find a restaurant where everybody knows your name. A local eatery fixes Yolanda’s food exactly as she requests, and “they keep a fat-free butter spray just for her,” says Rey.

  • Desert dessert...unless you’re sure it’s nonfattening. Yolanda indulges in after-meal treats only at restaurants that make calorie counts available on their Web sites or menus.

  • Measure everything. “She had a glass of wine yesterday and asked the server how many ounces were in the glass,” reports Rey. “He came back and said, ‘It’s a 9-oz. glass and we pour 7 oz.’”
