Contest Winner: Wackiest Vacation Memory
Mary McComas of Stephens City, Va., kept her cool when her hubby left her behind!
Winner of the "Wackiest Vacation Memory" contest
On a vacation road trip, Mary McComas, now a retired government employee, ducked into a gas station bathroom while her husband, Richard, paid for gas. But when Mary emerged, her hubby — and their truck — had disappeared!
"So I sat on a bench and pondered the situation," Mary recalls. "I could always catch a bus home, if worse came to worst!"
Twenty minutes — and plenty of head-scratching — later, Richard cruised 'round the bend, explaining that he eventually realized she wasn't in the vehicle because it was so quiet.
But was he sorry? "Oh, men never apologize for anything!" Mary says, with amazing good humor.

"My husband and I had just fallen asleep in a hotel when suddenly everything began to shake! The furniture skidded around the room! We heard a long, shrill whistle and heavy clanking metal. When he and I checked in, we hadn't noticed train tracks located 60 feet from our room!"

"We were told that our morning flight was going to be delayed because our plane wasn't at the airport. But when I peeked out the terminal window, I saw it sitting outside! I pointed that out to a shocked airline employee, who at first looked at me like I was crazy. But we ended up in the air on time!"

"After driving 1,200 miles cross-country to surprise my brother,
who lives in Colorado, I arrived at his house to find no one home. Panicked, I called his friend to ask where my brother was. She told me that he'd driven to Chicago to surprise me!"
