I found this charm bracelet in a box of my mothers jewelry. She began assembling it in the 1950s, but some charms, like the anchor, heart and cross, may be older. Is it worth anything?
The first thing to do is determine which charms are made from precious metal. Silver charms will be marked Sterling or 925. Gold charms will have a karat mark, for example, 10K, 12K and so on. Collector interest in post-1945 charm bracelets has grown considerably during the past five years, as theyve come into fashion again. Christie Romero, author of Warmans Jewelry (3rd Edition), notes that four books on collecting charms were published in the last two years alone! Commonly found sterling charms sell for $10 to $15 each. Assuming some, but not all, of your charms are sterling, Romero believes your bracelet has a minimum value of $250 and possibly much more.
