Any perks to owning this country store countertop coffee grinder?

— S.R., New York City

Your grinder was built by Enterprise Manufacturing, a Philadelphia firm that produced many products in the late 1800s, winning a gold medal at the 1876 Centennial Exposition for outstanding contributions to the public. Enterprise introduced coffee mills around 1873, numbering them according to size. Yours appears to be a 7 or an 8, and as all mills from 7 up featured eagle finials on the lid by 1899 — as does yours (though not visible in this photo) — it was likely made between 1890 and 1910. In great condition, it would be worth $500. Unfortunately, it’s missing a hopper drawer and looks to have been repainted. Enterprise mills often had elaborate artwork and decals, such as the Centennial medal, but yours doesn’t. If I’m right about the paint, your mill is worth about $275.
