egg container glasses and decanter
SPECIAL OFFERS:

This egg, marked “Czechoslovakia,” was used by my grandmother to keep schnapps by her bedside. Family history says it’s from around 1900. What can you tell me about it?

The state of Czechoslovakia was created in 1918, and in 1993, its parliament divided the country into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Any item marked “Made in Czechoslovakia” was made between 1918 and 1992. Your egg, known as a beverage set, dates from the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s. In addition to the decanter, the set originally had six shot glasses (yours appears to have just two). Peggy Sebek, a Czechoslovakian-glass appraiser in Shaker Heights, Ohio, says the shot glasses are hard to replace. Had your egg been complete, its value would have been between $125 and $150. But because of the missing glasses, Sebek values it between $40 and $50.
