This porcelain vase, marked Kauffmann, was a gift from my husbands grandmother to his mother. I believe it is from the 1940s.Marie Angelique Catherine Kauffmann (1741 to 1807) was a Swiss artist whose work was copied on 19th- and 20th-century ceramics. Charles Moyer of the Sanford Alderfer Auction Company in Hatfield, Penn., notes that a single mantle urn like this (less desirable than a pair of urns) brings around $100 at auction and will be sold in antique shops for $150 to $225.
