My mother received this lamp as a housewarming gift 50 years ago. While the shades frame is original, the fabric has been changed. What can you tell me about this pieces history?

In the 1950s, America engaged in a heated love affair with all things South Pacific. After the debut of musicals like Rogers and Hammersteins South Pacific and The King and I, figurines, wall hangings and lamps like yours with a Siamese feel found their way into many homes. In fact, entire rooms were often designed to emanate a South Seas aura (many even featuring tiki bars). During that same kitschy decade, people were warned that watching TV in total darkness would ruin their eyes. Hence, minimal illumination was provided by keeping a then-stylish lamp such as this one on top of the tube. Id put your lamps worth at between $35 and $45; if the original shade had remained intact, its value would increase by $25.
