Those stubborn white spots typically result when a tank is filled with hard water. Once your fish have been safely transferred to a temporary holding container, empty the tank and dab vinegar (saturate a paper towel) onto the affected areas. Let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes to loosen deposits, then scrub with a nonabrasive pad or cloth before thoroughly rinsing.
