Place a large wicker basket or plastic bin by your front door. Then tell your gang that all sporting equipment (cleats, balls, you name it) must be dropped in before taking another step. Having a catch-all will not only keep the mud out, but also prevent your kids from shouting, “Mom, I can’t find my cleats!”
