My car is lightweight and doesn't hold the road in snow, even though we just bought new all-weather tires! Any other options?
Do you live in an area where it snows more than three times a year? If so, you really need snow tires, says automotive expert Lauren Fix, author of the new book Just Drive It! All-weather tires are great, she adds, as long as the temperature is 30 degrees or higher (most-weather tires is more like it). If you'd rather not buy a second set of new tires this winter, Fix suggests putting something heavy in the trunk, like a bag of sand. It will give your car the extra weight it needs to hold the road better. The other benefit of having sand in your trunk? If you get stuck on ice, you can spread it on the ground to obtain the traction you need to get out of the jam
