Try this trick: Keep a large basket at the bottom of the stairs, and ask your children to toss migrant toys, sneakers, clothes, etc., into it. Each night, one family member takes the basket upstairs, empties it, then carries it back down, putting it in the same place. Worst-case scenario? You still end up carting the items upstairs, but at least you'll only have to make one trip!
