Sweet and Spicy Rubbed Ham

An old-fashioned Christmas favorite, this ham gets an extra zing with its flavor-packed rub

INGREDIENTS conv. chart U.S. Metric

6 pound(s) (fully cooked smoked) bone-in ham
.5 cup(s) (packed ) brown sugar
.33 cup(s) maple syrup
.5 teaspoon(s) (ground) mustard
.125 teaspoon(s) (ground) cinnamon
.125 teaspoon(s) ground ginger
.125 teaspoon(s) ground cloves
dash ground nutmeg
cinnamon sticks , for garnish, optional
red seedless grapes, for garnish, optional

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 325ºF. Line a shallow roasting pan with foil. Place ham, cut side down, on rack in pan and insert an ovenproof meat thermometer into the ham’s thickest part.
  2. Bake uncovered about 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until meat thermometer reads 140ºF. Meanwhile, in small bowl, mix together all the other ingredients (except garnish) to blend and brush over ham during last 30 minutes of baking.
  3. Remove ham from oven, cover loosely with foil and let it stand 10 to 15 minutes for easier carving. Garnish platter with cinnamon sticks and red grapes, if desired.
